When the trees are full of plums this summer,
we can make these pretty loaves of bread with
a tasty topping of pecans and cinnamon sugar.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 tsp grated lemon peel
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1-1/2 cups chopped pitted fresh plums
TOPPING:
2 TBSP sugar
2 TBSP chopped pecans
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
In a mixing bowl, combine the sugars, oil, egg and lemon peel;
mix well.
Combine the flour, baking soda and salt;
add to sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in plums.
Pour into two greased loaf pans.
Combine topping ingredients.
Bake at 350 for 60-70 minutes or until
a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans.
